A BLUE MOUNTAINS WEDDING: AMANDA + MATTHEW

You’ll get no arguments from us when you say the Blue Mountains is one spectacular location to tie the knot! Heritage homesteads, breathtaking views and that “gone bush”  feeling you get when you are so far away from home yet so close all at the same time.

Our friends over at Mint Photography recently had the pleasure of shooting Amanda + Matthew’s wedding at Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains and what a spectacular day it was. Amanda tells us “We really liked the idea of all our family and friends actually spending a weekend away together. Yester Grange was about the fourth venue we’d actually looked at in person, and we just knew – the moment we walked down the driveway and saw the amazing view – that it was exactly what we wanted. After that none of the other venues even came close!” Amanda goes on to say “being married in the Blue Mountains was also significant for us as we met rock climbing and had spent many weekends there together.”

We love their neutral white colour palette with hints of vintage decorations here and there, all of which sit beautifully into the lush bush setting but the thing that impressed us the most? Amanda ordered her dress off the internet… no fittings, no viewings, no nothing… and here we are thinking rock climbing was brave!

What’s on during Winter in the Blue Mountains 2018

Winter Magic Festival, Katoomba – Saturday 22nd June 2018

The Winter Magic Festival is a free, annual community event, celebrated around the Winter solstice in Katoomba in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia. The Winter Solstice in 2016 (Yule) falls on June 21st, 8:34 am AEST.

Winter Magic is the Blue Mountain’s highest-profile and most anticipated annual event. The Blue Mountains is NSW inaugural City of the Arts and Katoomba is the heart of that city. It is the weekend when artists, musicians, dancers, drummers, choirs, stalls and community take over one of Australia’s most famous towns.

During the event, the main street of Katoomba is closed to motor traffic and open to pedestrian traffic. This allows the whole town to become a performance space. The streets are lined with market stalls and everybody who attends is encouraged to dress in costume.

Unlike many Festivals run by Chambers of Commerce and Councils, this event is run by community volunteers. It has a strong local focus and very wide general appeal. The setting is a town sitting on a narrow ridge and bound north and south by a World Heritage-listed National Park.

The festival itself is free, however, some activities charge a fee.
